The Medievalists Association’s twentieth symposium, taking place at the University of Salzburg, will be devoted to the topic “In Nomine – Name and Designation in the Middle Ages”. The approximately 140 lectures will examine phenomena, semantics, and cultural manifestations and practices associated with names and designations in the Middle Ages. The aim is to develop specific new approaches to history from inter- and transdisciplinary perspectives. Translation plays a role in a number of the symposium sections, for example “Natur/lehren. Namensverwendungen als ästhetische Strategien der Wissensvermittlung in transkultureller Perspektive” (headed by Regula Forster, Jan Stellmann (Tübingen)) and “Für Gott und Jerusalem – Heilige Namen im Kontext von Jihad und Kreuzzug” (headed by Albrecht Fuess (Marburg)).
