  Int. Conf.: Connecting Translation

  “The work of translation, which is a central component of intercultural exchange and international knowledge circulation, is commonly regarded as a lonely business. Recently, however, work has been done on many levels to strengthen the exchange among translators. In the course of these networking tendencies, a paradigm shift can be observed within translation theory and practice: the processuality of translation is coming to the fore; experimental and collective translation projects are gaining in importance and more attention is being paid to the cross-border function of translation.

  The Frankfurt conference “Übersetzen vernetzen” - a cooperation between the Fachinformationsdienst Allgemeine und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft, the Institutes of General and Comparative Literature in Frankfurt and Berlin as well as the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme and the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris - will bring together collective European translation projects for the first time and discuss the possibilities of better networking in a dialogue with translators, translation funding agencies, academics and librarians. Among other things, the critical added value of polyphonic translation; questions of mapping the processuality of translation; current political and ethical implications of translation as well as the development of digital networking structures will be reflected upon.”
